Jazz Bassist Dave Zinno performs at Woods Hole Community Hall in scenic Falmouth on Cape Cod Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:30 PM for an evening of contemporary and classic jazz. Dave is joined by Jason Palmer (trumpet), Tim Ray (piano) and Steve Langone (drums). Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Zinno studied Jazz at the Berklee College of Music and the University of Rhode Island before moving to the west coast to work with Grammy winning jazz vocalist Diane Schuur. Zinno later moved to New York City where he performed with Jimmy Cobb, John Medeski, Larry Willis, and Sonny Fortune among others. He played in the Broadway pit orchestra for Sugar Babies and An Evening with Michael Feinstein while also writing and touring internationally. He has recorded with a wide range of jazz stars including Scott Hamilton, Adam Nussbaum, Greg Hopkins, and Jim Robitailles. Zinno also plays in trios behind Ann Hampton Calloway and Ben Vereen. Zinno teaches at Brown University and URI when not recording or performing at clubs in New York and Boston. He has performed in Falmouth on Cape Cod many times. Downbeat Magazine called Jason Palmer one of the “Top 25 trumpeters of the Future” back in 2007. Since then he won an international jazz competition and recorded four CDs. His most recent CD, Take a Little Trip, received a four star rating from Downbeat Magazine. Mr. Palmer has worked with jazz icons Roy Haynes, Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Smith, Wynton Marsalis, Phil Woods and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Mr. Palmer has appeared several times in Falmouth after his debut at JazzFest Falmouth 2012.
Tim Ray, Lyle Lovett’s long-time pianist, has appeared on over 70 recordings with artists as diverse as pop stars Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, and Soul Asylum, jazz artists Phil Woods, Scott Hamilton, Esperanza Spaulding, and Gary Burton, and as a solo artist performing with Gunther Schuller, the Boston Pops and the Boston Classical Orchestra. Ray has appeared on The Tonight Show, Late Night with David Letterman and The Conan O’Brien Show. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the White House and the Kennedy Center.
Steve Langone is a mainstay on the jazz performing and recording circuit around Boston. He honed his percussive skills during a seven-year gig in a Brazilian nightclub while still a student at the Berklee College of Music. He has performed with top jazz performers Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, Victor Mendoza, and Luciana Sousa. Langone appears on over 30 CDs, three under his own name.
