Featuring New York Based Trumpeter Mike Sailors And The Second Line Stompers Led By Gregg Gelb at The Glenwood Club

The newly formed Triangle Traditional Jazz Society (TTJS) supports and encourages the furtherance of a true American art form—traditional jazz. TTJS offers public performances and educational opportunities for national and locally recognized musicians and bands to come together to play, learn, and follow traditional jazz, otherwise known as Dixieland, the music that came out of the cotton fields and bayous to the cities, notably New Orleans, and later to St. Louis, Chicago, and New York in the early decades of the last century.

TTJS will present its first public performance and jam session on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00pm at the Glenwood Club, 3300 Woman’s Club Drive, Raleigh. Renowned New York-based traditional jazz trumpeter Mike Sailors will join the Second Line Stompers led by Triangle-based jazz artist Gregg Gelb to perform traditional Dixieland jazz music—including style standards such as Dinah, Sweet Georgia Brown, New Orleans, Swing that Music, Everybody Loves My Baby, and more....

At 5:30pm musicians of all ages are invited to learn more about the musical techniques of traditional jazz. At 6:30pm the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble preparing for competition at Lincoln Center in New York this spring will rehearse with Mike Sailors.

Board member David McAllister, jazz pianist, says, "We’re pleased and eager to bring well-known traditional jazz musicians to the Triangle and to help local musicians learn how to play traditional jazz, also called Dixieland. Plan to attend our first concert on April 3 and help sustain this original American jazz medium. You’ll be able to dance and pat your feet to this wonderful music. “
