Jazz fans and families will want to mark their calendars for a special Father’s Day concert that will feature local and national jazz musicians in the Raleigh Little Theatre Scottie Stevenson Amphitheatre. The second annual Paul Montgomery Memorial Father’s Day Jazz Concert is planned for Sunday, June 16, at 6:30 pm. The concert will cap a weekend of free jazz clinics to be conducted by the director of Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University, Dr. Ronald Carter.
In keeping with the family focus of the Concert, Dr. Carter will perform with his daughter, Demetria Carter, a singer who studies at North Carolina Central University. Also performing will be the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble and the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra which are both directed by Dr. Gregg Gelb, plus Kathy and Chris Gelb, daughter and grandson of the late Paul Montgomery, a longtime musician in the Raleigh area and beloved “Uncle Paul” of WRAL. ...
