The many facets of Jazz Impresario Cory Weeds have been written and talked about at length. However as a saxophonists his accomplishments are most impressive. He has released 5 records as a leader, all to critical acclaim. Big Weeds (recorded with Mike LeDonne, Peter Bernstein and Joe Farnsworth) made into JAZZ WEEK'S TOP 100 JAZZ RELEASES of 2008. Everything's Coming Up Weeds (recorded with Jim Rotondi, John Webber, Willie Jones III and Ross Taggart) made it into JAZZ WEEK'S TOP 100 JAZZ RELEASES of 2009 making it as high as #6 on the charts. The Many Deeds Of Cory Weeds (recorded with Joey Defrancesco, Byron Landham and Chris Davis) graced the Jazz Week charts for over 10 weeks. Just Like That is a quartet outing that extols bluesiness, bop, swinging and grooving. It's "super straight ahead," as Weeds calls it in his liner notes. As with Weeds' previous CDs, Just Like That steadfastly features Weeds and his accompanists playing in the box and loving it. Indeed, with its heavy emphasis on the most standard of song forms and core jazz values, Just Like That can seem more workman-like than artisanal. The resulting disc, for which Webb served as musical director, is a polished, feel-good outing that keeps most of its themes riffing and simple. Just Like That enjoyed much success on the JazzWeek Charts making it as high as #7 during its 17 week run on the charts. Weeds' most recent released graced the Jazz Week Charts for the better part of 14 weeks making it as high as #4 and received a 4 Star review in the November issue of Downbeat Magazine....
