Chris Potter's Underground at Lantaren Venster

Saxophone player Chris Potter was born in Chicago in 1971. His special talents were shown from an early age. When he was 18 he moved to New York and became an in demand musician with great musicians like Ray Brown, Paul Motion and James Moody. He also played on albums by The Mingus Big Band, Steve Swallow, Dave Holland and friend Kenny Werner. After this period he devoloped his own style as bandleader.

From the mid 90's he recorded a couple of solo-albums for Jazzlabel Concord. On these albums he showed that his drive for experimentation created some beautiful music. Chris about his musical style: "My aesthetic as a saxophonist has always been based in Bird, Lester Young, Sonny Rollings and all the other greats on the intstrument.
