Philip Catherine has been one of the leading figures in the European jazzscene since the 60’s. His collaborations with jazz legends like Chet Baker, Tom Harrell, Stéphane Grappelli, Larry Coryell, Dexter Gordon, Charles Mingus together with his unique style and sound, made him one of the biggest influences on European Jazz.

This fall Catherine celebrates his 70th birthday with an extended tour and a new album, recorded with his quartet that consists of the Italian pianist Nicola Andrioli, bassist Phillipe Aerts and the young, but genius drummer Antoine Pierre. Philip Catherine knows how to win over any crowd with his fluent guitarplaying. And even though Catherine is a master of the guitarstrings, he never gets carried away by doing a technical demonstration. He rather concentrates on the purity of the sound, intensity of his improvisations and tight interplay with his musicians.
