About
The music of Rabih Abou-Khalil can not be described in one word, but is extremely accessible. The famous Lebanese composer and virtuoso on the oud (Arab lute) has a bold approach to the Arab classical music and is thus seen as an avant-gardist. Using themes and improvisation, together with rebellion. That’s why he fits in the jazz tradition. In addition, he surrounds himself for over twelve years with a solid group of musicians, the Italian accordionist Luciano Biondini, the French tuba player Michel Godard and American drummer Jarrod Cagwin. With his new album Hungry People Rabih Abou-Khalil takes a look at a greedy world. The song Dreams of a Dying City was originally written in mourning, during the Lebanese civil war and is about his hometown Beirut. The album contains melancholic ballads alongside exuberant and festive swing. As often in life, joy and sorrow lie close together. Line-up:...
