Ben Vereen at San Jose Jazz Summer Fest at San Jose Repertory Theatre

Few entertainers today have shown the talent and versatility of actor, dancer, singer and activist Ben Vereen. For more than 35 years, Vereen has been performing one-man concerts in the United States and around the world. His legendary performances have transcended time and become woven into the fabric of this country’s artistic legacy. Along with his many artistic accomplishments, Vereen has found a way to combine his passion for the stage with bringing awareness to people living with diabetes.

Vereen has appeared in Tony® Award-winning productions of Pippin, Wicked, I’m Not Rappaport, Fosse, Jesus Christ Superstar and A Christmas Carol and has toured the country in Sweet Charity and Hair. He also headlined the first Las Vegas touring production of Broadway’s Chicago with Chita Rivera. Vereen will soon return to Broadway in his one man show, From Brooklyn to Broadway....

After he was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2007, Vereen responded by working to raise awareness for the disease. With support from Sanofi US and Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD), he started Start Taking Action Now for Diabetes initiative (S.T.A.N.D.) to educate people about diabetes and encourage them to learn how to properly manage their condition. Jazz+ Concerts give you the opportunity to see some of Summer Fest’s brightest stars a second time in intimate, acoustically-rich settings later the same day. Jazz+ performances take place at the San Jose Rep Theater, Blackbird Tavern, Theatre on San Pedro Square (site of the Swing Stage) and The Pagoda (site of the Jazz Beyond Stage) Friday-Sunday.
