Mandolinist Danilo Brito exemplifies the musical virtuosity emerging from Brazil, giving international platform to choro, a form of music with an improvisational nature comparable to jazz and blues developed in the early 20th century. Brito, a former child prodigy, is as comfortable on the cavaquinho (ukulele) as he is on the mandolin. At 19, he won Brazil’s most prestigious instrumental accolade, the Visa Award. He has performed with American mandolinists Mike Marshall and David Grisman, as well as many top Brazilian musicians. Duo partner Carlos Moura’s seven-string guitar is the perfect accompaniment for Brito’s unique style.
