The Bad Plus at Stanford Jazz Festival

For the past ten years The Bad Plus— bassist Reid Anderson, pianist and SJW alum Ethan Iverson, and drummer David King—have broken down the walls of jazz convention and created an uncompromising body of work, largely original, and based on what they call their “personal brand of avant-garde populism.” Though firmly rooted in the acoustic jazz piano trio tradition, their stylistic appetite is huge, encompassing pop, rock, country, electronic, and classical idioms. “The Bad Plus are a reminder that American jazz hasn’t gone to sleep,” noted the Observer Music Monthly. “Play any of the their albums and their collective sound leaps out of your speakers, steps all over your furniture, and scares the bejesus out of the cat.”...
