A true “Latin music Renaissance man” (SF Chronicle), John Santos is nationally renowned as a percussionist, historian, producer,
composer, bandleader, and teacher. He has been at the vanguard of the Bay Area’s Latin jazz scene for more than 25 years, performing with everyone from Tito Puente to Dizzy Gillespie, and received his fifth Grammy nomination in 2009 for La Guerra No, with El Coro Folklorico Kindembo. The John Santos Quintet combines the musical traditions of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Afro-Caribbean diaspora with exciting contemporary jazz improvisation to create a sound that “has placed the Bay Area on the cutting edge of Latin jazz” (East Bay Express)....
