Dave Solazzo is wanted by the authorities. His blatant disregard for traditional harmonies has

piano trios of Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal and Bill Evans, but time and again he has been
caught shamefully partaking in unethical musical ideas. Dave Solazzo is a notorious genre abuser
with little to no respect for playing it safe.
“The only reason he has gotten away with it as long as he has is because music lovers really dig
his unique approach to the piano,” says coconspirator and bassist Matthew Vacanti. The title of
their new recording, Locrian Skye, is a reference to their use of the Locrian mode — a villainous
and unethical scale that isn't normally associated with traditional jazz. Frankly, the result is a new
and refreshing sounding piano trio.
Bassist Matthew Vacanti and drummer Bill D’Agostino have not been a positive influence on the
group, either. Vacanti has been known to expose minors to questionable jazz improvisation
techniques through educational clinics and has been seen performing unauthorized styles of
music for decades, offending Martha Reeves and the Vandella’s, Kevin Mahogany, and Giacomo
Gates.
Drummer Bill D’Agostino was born in the prison city of Auburn NY and got his unscrupulous
start by pilfering the best licks from famous drummers such as Steve Gadd and Tony Williams.
His politically incorrect placement of funky grooves and other forbidden rhythms in jazz has
gotten him all but banned from most venues.
