2 Hemispheres at Music Northwest Concert Series at Olympic Recital Hall

All of the musicians in 2 Hemispheres are fluent in classical, jazz, rock, folk, and an assortment of world music traditions. For us improvisation is on equal par with interpreting the written passages. Collectively we are female and male, acoustic and electronic, spiritual and irreverent, we whisper and scream, and of course we are all very interested in sharing our musical vision with you, our audience.

2 Hemispheres was conceived last spring and nurtured through infancy while I was living in Brazil. There is nothing intrinsically Brazilian in the music except for the fact that a certain rhythmic vitality permeates everything. The use of electronics is prominent and serves to conjure a full textural palate. In addition, the use of several non-tempered tuning systems adds vibrancy and overtone structures that resonate to a profound degree. And the formal structure of many of these pieces aims at blurring the seams between through-composed and improvised passages....
