Comfort Food: "Bitches Brew meets Fela Kuti"

This week on Thursday, May 19, my latest project, which was spawned along with electric bassist Randy Clere and guitarist John Ferrer called Comfort Food: "Bitches Brew meet Fela Kuti" will play at the Triple Door Musiquarium Lounge. This band travels down the musical journey started by Miles Davis' "electric era". The use of funk, rock, soul and blues elements in truly an electric setting is our agenda. Also, the influence of Fela Kuti's driving afrobeat and the mesmerizing pulses of the rhythms from Africa is relative to Miles's electric direction which leaned on James Brown's funk. Fela Kuti, by the way, was also influenced by James Brown when he spent time in America in the seventies. Music from the mesmerizing drumbeat going full circle from it's roots in Africa to America and back to Africa. It's an interesting history....
