Thelonious Sphere Monk, one of America’s most original jazz pianists and composers was born on October 10, 1917 and we are so pleased to be able to celebrate his music on the 99th anniversary of his birth! Monk had a unique piano style and he created many tunes that have become standard jazz repertoire, including Well You Needn’t, ‘Round Midnight, Blue Monk, Epistrophy and In Walked Bud. Besides his marvelous compositions and improvisations, Monk was also famous for his distinctive hats, sunglasses and suits.
