Phil Sparks Trio at Seattle Jazz Fellowship

Bass players are generally seen as side musicians on someone else’s gig. It is fun to see that the Seattle Jazz Fellowship is seeing things differently by booking Jeff Johnson, Michael Glynn, Trevor Ford, and now for the second time, veteran Seattle Hall of Fame bassist Phil Sparks. For this performance, Sparks brings in two old friends in guitarist Leif Totusek and drummer Greg Campbell. This trio has frequented Sparks’ long time Friday dates at Latona Pub, an association of many years and many hours of playing. Totusek is a jazz smart guitarist with rock sensibilities. His tone is very fat and jazz-like, all the while performing on a stratocaster. Campbell has been known to frequent adventurous musical alliances and brings a notion of unpredicability to the proceedings.
