Drummer Roy McCurdy is a jazz icon, and still a force behind the drum kit. Known for extended stays with the bands of Cannonball Adderly, Sonny Rollins, Bobby Timmons and Betty Carter, the drummer is still dynamically engaged at age 88. His ten year tenure with Cannonball’s band is stuff of legend, establishing him as a supremely swinging interpreter of modern jazz in one of the music’s most historic configurations. McCurdy has played in Seattle trumpeter Thomas Marriott’s band as well, thus creating the good fortune we here in Seattle have attained in the ability to see him play, and share in his musical wisdom.
