The Endemic Ensemble, led by bassist Steve Messick, is celebrating the release of their second full-length album, "Tangled," through a special performance at Tula’s Restaurant and Jazz Club. The Endemic Ensemble's composers, Steve Messick, David Franklin, and Matso Limtiaco, each wrote three of the nine songs on the album in styles ranging from post-bop to soul-jazz to bossa nova. Founded by bassist Steve Messick in early 2010, the Endemic Ensemble is a modern, collaborative jazz quintet based in Seattle. The music is described as having "swinging rhythm, great tunes and purposeful playing - always in the service of the song, and usually anchored in the blues" (Lucid Culture). "Think hard-bop meets classical and big band horns" (Carol Banks Weber, AXS). The Endemic Ensemble’s debut 2012 album, Lunar, made NYC blog Lucid Culture's "The 20 Best Jazz Albums of 2012."
