In 1969 he approached his piano to the saxophones of Alan Skidmore and John Surman. Throughout the years he worked in projects led by other artists, always contributing with his own personal style. And the result was quite positive. John Taylor is one of the very few pianists worldwide —with Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau— who aspires to gather audiences much larger than those typical in jazz circles. His association with Swedish double bassist Palle Danielsson and drummer Martin France marks a turning point in his career, as it is considered by many British jazz experts as his best group ever: one with which all the artisanal qualities and the colourful potentialities of Taylor come to light plainly. His album Angel of presence (CAM, 2006) was enthusiastically received by the jazz critics, leading Taylor to realize that, despite the fact that he had stayed in the background of jazz for a long time, he had become one of the most admired pianists in Europe.
