“Smokey, bluesy numbers and Kerouac meets Piaf. Everyone fits in at The Green tile tango club … it’s the place to be seen. You could be watching someone, and someone could be watching you.”
Perth based Singer/Songwriter/Cabaret performer, Jen de Ness brings her trio to the Sydney Fringe to present two soulfully entertaining shows in celebration of the release her new album, “See things like you”.
With rave reviews from its premiere at Adelaide Cabaret Fringe, Perth Ellington Jazz Club, & Paris Cat Jazz Club, Melbourne & Jen's 2014/2016 UK appearances at clubs and festivals, Jen is delighted to share the show for the first time with Sydney audiences. Drawing on songs from the Album it features the smooth, sultry and entertaining vocals of Jen alongside her ability to entertain, tell some good tales and connect with her audience. Jen is supported by slick guitar playing and backing vocals from fellow composer, Bill Atkinson and long-term percussionist Satish Krishnan with cool rhythm and grooves.
See things like you is “a cleverly devised cabaret piece about the quirky people who regularly attend an imaginary venue, The Green Tile Tango Club.” Cool swing tunes, beautiful blues, smooth bossa, zesty tango and on French Cabaret dancing tune (which you won’t find on the CD!) To quote Broadway World Review, 2016, “Jen sings across a great variety of musical genre and is .a most expressive singer, with a unique ability to create and rapidly switch between characters, with all of the emotional content in the songs subtly dealt with.”
The title track to the show, a cool swing tune called “See things like you”, is sung by Jen’s Kerouac inspired character, Sam who comes to the Green Tile Tango club to revive his ailing writing career. Another main character is Jacquie, a hilariously sultry combination of Piaf, Dietrich and Madeline Kahn, a woman who got on the plane, got dumped and lived to tell the tale!
