Born and bred in Cuba (Havana, 1983), Pacheco truly has music in her DNA. She studied classical piano from a young age and grew up surrounded by Cuban son, cha cha cha and bolero, but it was when she heard the likes of Oscar Peterson and Keith Jarrett that something ‘clicked’.

She was infected by jazz, and in 2002, at the age of 19, she won the Cuban competition Jo-Jazz judged by Grammy award-winner Chucho Valdes. Her first album was produced by Ibrahim Ferrer’s pianist, Roberto Fonseca.

A record deal then took her to Germany, where she released three albums and toured extensively. Since 2009, she has been based in Brisbane and is fast making her reputation in Australia’s jazz scene. Her fifth album, Songs that I Love (Pinnacles Music), was recorded in a single three-hour take at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in Brisbane.
