The Stance Brothers began as a fictional band that gave Teppo Mäkynen the opportunity to experiment with new studio techniques. What would George Duke have done with a Madlib beat? This reverse approach to thinking spawned the highly acclaimed LP 'Kind Soul', which was released in 2007. Now, The Stance Brothers have returned to performing live with a new lineup, following the release of several 7" singles and the 'Duktus' album.
The feel-good music they produce features influences from Brazilian funk to sample-based hip hop. Mäkynen has gathered around him a vibrant and skilled group of the most interesting young generation musicians. In addition to playing, Mäkynen, who also serves as the composer and producer for The Stance Brothers, will surely make the most of Suisto's fantastic setting.
Mäkynen has been selected several times as the best drummer in Jazzrytmit magazine's critics' poll, and was awarded the prestigious Jazz Federation's Yrjö Award in 2007.

Rumpali Teppo Mäkysen positiivisesta energiasta ja upeasta soitosta on saatu nauttia Hämeenlinnassakin useasti viime vuosien aikana. Nyt vihdoin Mäkynen saapuu ikioman The Stance Brothers -bändinsä kanssa Suiston lavalle.
The Stance Brothers alkoi kuvitteellisena yhtyeenä joka antoi Teppo Mäkyselle mahdollisuuden uudenlaisten studiokokeilujen toteuttamiseen. Mitä George Duke olisi tehnyt Madlibin biitistä? Tämä käänteinen ajattelutapa synnytti paljon hehkutusta keränneen LP:n Kind Soul joka julkaistiin vuonna 2007. Nyt The Stance Brothers on palannut useamman 7" sinkun ja Duktus-levyn julkaisun myötä myös keikoille uuden live-kokoonpanon kanssa.
Hyvää fiilistä tuovasta musiikista voi kuulla vaikutteita niin brasilialaisesta funkista kuin sample-pohjaisesta hip hopista. Mäkynen on kasannut ympärilleen elinvoimaisen ja taitavan joukon nuoremman polven kiinnostavimmista soittajista. Soittamisen lisäksi The Stance Brothersin säveltäjänä ja tuottajana toimiva Mäkynen varmasti ottaa Suiston huikeista puitteista kaiken ilon irti.
Mäkynen on valittu lukuisia kertoja parhaaksi rumpaliksi Jazzrytmit-lehden kriitikkoäänestyksessä, ja palkittu arvostetulla Jazzliiton Yrjö-palkinnolla vuonna 2007.
