This special Fall program will take place at 3:00 pm in the Turner Recital Hall at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music, 2400 Blakemore Avenue, Nashville, Tenn. ABOUT WEATHER REPORT
Weather Report is considered to be one of the preeminent jazz fusion bands. Co-led throughout its history by the Austrian-born keyboardist Joe Zawinul and saxophonist Wayne Shorter, the band as a continuous working unit outlasted all of its contemporaries despite frequent changes of personnel, with a career lasting sixteen years between 1970 and 1986. Prominent members of the group included the virtuoso bassist Jaco Pastorius and percussionist Airto Moreira, as well as drummers Peter Erskine and Chester Thompson. Now a busy Nashville musician and educator, Thompson had already toured and played on significant albums with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention when he joined Weather Report. He went on to a brilliant career with pop superstars Genesis and Phil Collins, and has worked with countless luminaries across many genres.
