The event will also highlight the accomplishments of TAP participants and its alumni (99% of whom have gone on to college). TAP teaches minority youth to swim, lifeguard, and scuba dive while building their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Approximately one-third of the lifeguards serving Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation are TAP trained, 7 are lifeguard instructors, and 12 are water safety instructors. Of the 28 achieving Open Water Scuba diver certification 10 have gone on to become Master Scuba Divers.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to come out and celebrate the accomplishments of TAP and be entertained by a truly great jazz performer! Tickets are $40/person (through April 9th), $45.00 up to the date of the show. Tickets go on sale March 10th and can be purchased online at the TAP website (tennesseeaquaticproject.org), at the Essense Room (615 321-2525), or by calling Kenneth Stewart at (615 321-3060). About TAP
[iSince 1995, the Tennessee Aquatic Project and Development Group, Inc (TAP), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has sought to maximize the growth potential of African-American youth by exposing them to opportunities to engage in activities that build character, leadership, critical thinking skills, survival techniques, and community awareness. Guided by an all-volunteer staff, TAP uses aquatic training (swimming, lifeguarding, and scuba diving) as the vehicle to master new skills, build confidence, and pursue non-traditional careers. Serving youth between the ages of 8 and 18, TAP youth are swimmers, water safety instructors, lifeguard instructors, snorkelers, and scuba divers (open water divers, rescue divers, and master divers). Several alumni have pursued careers in areas first discovered as TAP participants—marine biology, environmental science, and licensed professional divers. It is the goal of TAP to expose and impact the lives of youth so that they can dare to dream of possibilities!
