About

An early student of classical music Don pursued studies in jazz and contemporary music under Canada’s legendary Oscar Peterson at the Advanced School of Contemporary Music until he was introduced to Latin music by the Columbian born, Afro-Cuban drummer Memo Acevedo. This is the music that would captivate and become his life long passion. As a published author Don has written ‘Cookin’ with Salsa’ carefully designed, original studies to help keyboardists understand the basic principles of salsa, as musical director he works with Toronto based songwriter, vocalist and performer Laura Fernandez and as performer Don has played a major role in establishing Latin Music in Canada with his bands Salsa Con Clave and his current bank Xavierjazz. It is with this current band that Don is releasing his newest recording this week joined by Russ Little – trombone, Duncan Hopkins – bass, Bill McBirnie – flute and Max Sennitt – drums....
