Bernie Senensky and "Organic" at Jazz Bistro

Tonight we present Organic, a quartet which recently released their debut album, “Live at Joe Mama’s.” The group’s signature brand of B3 jazz blends hard bop and blues sensibilities with original compositions and blistering improvisation. Organic was formed when Ryan Oliver (Derek Miller, Shuffle Demons, Fishook) returned to Toronto after 5 years on the New York scene and sat in with his former collaborator Nathan Hiltz’s (GHT, Terra Hazelton, Brandi Disterheft) group at Joe Mama’s in the entertainment district in mid 2012. “Ryan shares our love of the great organ groups led by Jimmy Smith, Lonnie Smith, George Benson, and Wes Montgomery,” says Senensky. “When he played with us it was obvious it was something special – he was immediately hired as the fourth man.” In early 2011 the drum chair passed from Sly Juhas to Morgan Childs (Brandi Disterheft, Robi Botos, Amanda Tossoff). Childs is a BC native who moved to Toronto in 2010 and has quickly become a top call drummer....
