Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Robert Ball has become a rising star in the hottest New York music rooms, such as Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson’s The Sugar Bar, Café Wha, the Village Underground and Harlem’s Billie’s Black. New York audiences also witnessed Mr. Ball in a triumphant solo concert at the historic Triad Theatre on Lee Summers’ Just A Piano Concert Series joining the ranks of other notables having appeared on the series such as Tony Winner’s Melba Moore, Lillias White and R&B’s Alyson Williams.
Formally trained in Toronto at the Claude Watson School for the Arts - a school much like New York’s LaGuardia High School a.k.a. “Fame," Mr. Ball would later study music at Humber College, also in Toronto. His stage appearances in Musical Theatre include, Dreamgirls, Follow the Star (an original musical starring Broadway’s Carol Woods), The Kiln, an original musical (Toronto) and numerous other productions.
As a gifted solo artist, willing at times to lend his amazing tenor and smooth effortless falsetto as a background and/or session singer, Ball’s talents have enabled him to see the world. Most recently his extraordinary voice traveled him to Europe, Egypt, Dubai, UAE, Mexico the US, Caribbean and Canada as a featured vocalist with Royal Caribbean International. Robert has also sung background for and shared the stage with greats such as Kim Burrell, Mary Mary, Tonex (now BSlade), Saukrates, Divine Brown, CeCe Winans, Ashford & Simpson, Gordon Chambers to name a few…
Mr. Ball’s background and education have also lead to positions in church and not-for-profit organizations in titles ranging from vocal instructor, Artist Development Facilitator, Artistic Director to Community Arts Program Director.
Most recently Robert has been headlining sold out shows at Harlem’s Billies Black and Duane Park’s Friday Night Plume Revue ‘Tribeca’ & Toronto’s Ally Catz ‘Local Music is Sexy’ showcase. His debut CD/EP “Robert L. A. Ball ‘Live’ “ was recorded live in both Toronto and New York with one studio track produced and recorded by songwriter/producer Robbie Patterson it is currently available on iTunes/Amazon & CDBaby with talks for his second project already underway.

Heralded as “Canada’s preeminent Jazz trumpeter” by NYC’s Village Voice, Brownman Ali - born on the small Caribbean island of Trinidad, & schooled in NYC - is a multiple award-winning NYC-schooled protégé to his teacher, Grammy-winning trumpet legend, Randy Brecker. He tirelessly leads 7 unique ensembles of his own including the internationally acclaimed Miles Davis influenced BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO, and the award-winning CRUZAO latin-jazz quintet. In high demand in the studio world with over 300 CD appearances to date, Brownman delivers stylistically authentic horn playing over a wide range of styles from bebop to hiphop having worked with the likes of Guru's Jazzmatazz (replacing Donald Byrd in that primordial ensemble), Mos Def, KRS-1, Quincy Jones, Paul Simon, Mingus Dynasty Big Band, Gary Bartz, Chucho Valdes & far too many more to name here.
Brownman is considered to be one of the most unique and provocative improvising trumpet players in the nation today and is widely regarded as a vanguard for the evolution of Jazz in Canada. A highly decorated player, his accolades include 2 National Jazz Awards (and 11 nominations over the years), a CBC Galaxie Rising Star award, a SOCAN composers award, Montreal Jazz Fest's "Grand Prix Du Jazz" award, a Toronto Independent Music Award (& 6 nominations), an induction into the WHO'S WHO IN BLACK CANADA, a BRAVO! channel documentary on his life, NOW magazine naming him "Toronto's Best Jazz Musician", CBC Radio Canada named him "one of the most recorded trumpet players in Canadian history", the Trinidad & Tobago Consulate General awarded him with a citation for being a "Distinguished National of Trinidad", and is listed by Air Canada as one of the "Top 10 reasons to visit Toronto".
