Matthew Kassel: Cold Jazz

I care about jazz immensely--not as a zealous advocate or a surly eulogist. In this blog, I hope to write intelligently about a music that deserves intelligent consideration. I also hope to be frivolous sometimes. In the summer of 2010 I spent ten weeks writing jazz criticism under the tutorship of Ben Ratliff. I learned too many things from him. I play the drums and a slow blues on piano, key of C only. I'm working on B flat. This blog is as much for me as it is for you. But I hope you enjoy it more.
