Bill Frisell’s career as a guitarist and composer spans over 40 years, with a catalog hailed by Downbeat as “the best recorded output of the decade.” His latest release, Orchestras (Blue Note, April 2024), transforms the orchestral scope long present in his trio work into reality. Produced by Lee Townsend, the double album captures two concert-hall collaborations arranged by Michael Gibbs: one with the 60-piece Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Alexander Hanson, and another with the 11-piece Umbria Jazz Orchestra led by Manuele Morbidini, alongside bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston. Petra Haden, daughter of legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden, has spent three decades forging a restlessly eclectic and wholly unique musical career defined by creativity, versatility, and adventurous spirit.
