Preservation New Jersey is pleased to welcome Swingadelic to the 1867 Sanctuary to share the well known standards of the legendary Johnny Mercer and their new CD, Mercerville.

Swingadelic, featuring vocalists Vanessa Perea and John Bauers, will perform the Songs Of Johnny Mercer in this beautiful restored 1867 church. Johnny Mercer was an iconic figure as a lyricist and composer for the American Songbook, and a celebrity and entertainer throughout the 40’s and 50’s, with a popular radio show during the war years, gigs with a lot of the known big bands of the era, hit records of his own in 40’s, and winner of four Academy Awards as well as two Grammys for Song of the Year...

Johnny Mercer was an iconic figure as a lyricist and composer for the American Songbook, and a celebrity and entertainer throughout the 40’s and 50’s, with a popular radio show during the war years, gigs with a lot of the known big bands of the era, hit records of his own in 40’s, and winner of four Academy Awards as well as two Grammys for Song of the Year. His personal life was very colorful and included a notorious affair with Judy Garland that was on again-off again for over 30 years. Though overshadowed by his buddies Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra as a performer, Johnny nevertheless made huge contributions to their success with hits like “One For My Baby”, “I’m an Old Cowhand”, “Jeepers Creepers” and “Autumn Leaves”.
