About
The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame welcomes Andrea Baker and Steve Wilkerson to the Library Listening Room. Andrea will be on vocals and acoustic guitar and Steve on saxophone, flutes and clarinet. Andrea Baker is a critically acclaimed singer and multi-instrumentalist. Noted jazz critic, Leonard Feather, has compared Andrea to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan and Jazz Improv Magazine called her a female Sinatra. Don Heckman of the LA Times proclaimed her a musician's singer. A professional musician since age fourteen, Andrea has performed with many top names in jazz including the Stan Kenton Orchestra, the Frank Capp Juggernaut Band, the Ray Anthony Orchestra, the Billy May Orchestra, the Jack Sheldon Big Band, and with guitar legend, Barney Kessel. She has sung for Crystal Cruise Lines and the NAMM show. Steve Wilkerson, saxophone, flute and clarinet virtuoso, began his professional career at age 11 when he joined his father’s dance band. He was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Tulsa where he was lead alto and jazz soloist for their award winning jazz ensemble. He also won the coveted Downbeat Combo Award, which led to three separate appearances at the Wichita Jazz Festivals. After graduation, he toured with the Stan Kenton Orchestra as lead alto and jazz soloist. A move to Los Angeles brought him extensive work on the tenor sax, earing raves from legendary jazz critic, Leonard Feather, who proclaimed him “a ruling master of the tenor sax” in the LA Times....
