From a simple solo rag from 1914 to the ground-breaking fusion of symphonic form, into the lexicon of the jazz orchestra from the early 1940s, this concert demonstrates how the melodic genius of Ellington grew out of his roots as a stride piano ace to then form one of the most important bodies of work in the entire history of jazz. Bandleader Peter Long will narrate and illustrate this progression with the backup of the stellar group that is the Echoes Of Ellington. It will be a journey from the Soda Fountain in Washington D.C where it all started via the Cotton Club up to the height of the Swing Era on the hallowed boards of Carnegie Hall itself!
