Blasé Blasé, 1:00pm June 28th: Blasé Blasé, “the band so nice they named it twice,” is an eclectic group from Victoria, featuring a lineup of the city’s most talented veterans. Blending elements of live jazz, funk, and conscious hip-hop, they have a sound as unique and diverse as its members. Their sound ranges from high-energy, funky, disco thumpers that get a dance floor moving, to slower, soulful jazzy tunes, with a vibe closer to The Roots, FKJ, or the late Mac Miller. Tina Leon, 2:15pm June 28th: Montreal’s singer-songwriter Tina Leon draws her inspiration from the Motown generation and the soul music of the last decades. Having already sung and collaborated with Stevie Wonder, DJ Champion and Garou under the artist name Marie-Christine Depestre, she now appears in a new light, more authentic and full of life than ever. Describing herself as a rainbow of soul, her first EP Push (2022, via Ensoul Records) is a colorful journey through jazzy, funk, and pop rhythms with rich and enchanting melodies.
Carl Mayotte, 3:30pm June 28th: Grand laureate of the 2020-2021 Radio-Canada Jazz Revelation title, Carl Mayotte is now one of the most popular bassists and jazzmen in Quebec and Canada. Having started his professional career at the age of 16 and completed a master’s degree in jazz performance at McGill University, his virtuosity and versatility have been noticed by several musicians and critics from Alain Caron to the Bass Magazine.
Jaya Bremer, 1:00pm June 29th: Victoria’s dream-pop vocalist Jaya Bremer’s style combines elements of electronic, dream-pop and indie R&B. She has regularly featured as a standout performer at the TD Victoria International JazzFest, Phillips Backyard Weekender, and the Harbour Blues n’ Roots Festival in Victoria. Bremer was named a regional semi-finalist in CBC Searchlight 2017, the prestigious search for Canada’s next breakthrough act, as well as The Zone 91.3’s Band of the Month in 2024.
James Vickers Band, 2:15pm June 29th: Formed in July 2023, the James Vickers Band is an up-and-coming, blues-rocking collective based in Nanaimo. Vickers made his public stage debut at age eleven and has since gone on to perform at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January 2024. He has also opened for the legendary Jim Byrnes, Crystal Shawanda, and Wide Mouth Mason.
Skyla J, 3:30pm June 29th: After nearly a decade-long hiatus since her acclaimed album Greenlaw, vocalist/flautist Skyla J is making a triumphant return—and she’s bringing something truly special. Her latest self-titled solo project is a soulful, jazzy, and dub-infused masterpiece that redefines her artistry, wrapped up in a brand-new EP that’s as electrifying as it is heartfelt.
