He is a former Jazz Studies and electric bass professor at George Washington University and has he taught in the DC Summer Young Artist Programs. He has also taught general music and concert band in the Prince Georges County Public School System. He is one of Washington’s most talented freelance bassist, and appears in many of the City’s jazz clubs. Mr. Thomas is the founder and co conductor of the Prince Georges County Youth Jazz Ensemble along with Mr. Antonio Parker teaching young people about jazz and how to play jazz. In2013 Cheyney produced and released his album entitled “LIVE” The Cheyney Thomas Quartet. Cheyney and his wife Tonya Thomas produced “A Tribute To Buck Hill” June 30th, 2013 at The Queens Chapel United Methodist Church a tribute to the great saxophonist Roger Buck Hill. Mr. Thomas is also the founder of Cheyney Thomas Productions. Cheyney has released his new CD this year, January 2019 entitled “My Thoughts In Three” and is available on CD Baby and most digital formats.
