The Craig Gildner Trio brings the unique and full sound of a big band with the combination of stride piano filling out the bass (reminiscent of the styles of Teddy Wilson and Fats Waller), chordal and harmony lines as in a big band, a reed player who knows how to swing with fire and compassion, and a drummer with extensive knowledge of Gene Krupa’s style and a vintage calfskin drum set. For their Tuesday series during Jazz Appreciation Month in 2014, they are going to be playing mostly straight ahead jazz, with some swing mixed in. James Fowler on bass, Anders Eliasson on drums, and bandleader Craig Gildner on guitar and vocals.
