Sunflare is a flute-featured sextet that specializes in giving the clave twist to familiar classic and contemporary r&b songs, as well as playing traditional and modern latin jazz and “fusion” compositions. The band covers material from Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Steely Dan and Marvin Gaye to Snarky Puppy, OutKast, Pharell, Roy Ayers, Eric Benet, and Spyro Gyra, all meticulously arranged with an identity unique to the group. Sunflare likes to say that when describing their style, r&b actually stands for “rice and beans.”
