The 26th Annual Oyster Riot will once again take place in the Atrium of the Old Ebbitt Grill on November 17th and 18th, 2023. The evening sessions will be backed by the groovy tunes of the Yacht Lobsters playing all of your favorite yacht rock tunes from the 70s and 80s, while the Sol Roots Band bringing a powerful blend of New Orleans funk and soul, and the Matinee Riot will once again feature the blues backed tunes of Bad Influence Band. The Oyster Riot poster this year was designed by Madalyn Stefanak and displays a fantastic use of the red, white and blue colors. In a town that can often be divided over many issues, the Oyster Riot is a truly American event, bringing people together over some universal themes we can all agree upon – great food, great wines and great music to make a great Oyster Riot!
About the performing groups:
The Yacht Lobsters sail the waves of the butteriest Soft Rock of the 70's and early 80's. Their big sound recreates - and at times reimagines - the studio mastery of retro-rock icons like Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oates, Toto, etc.
It's the breezy Yacht Rock cool vibe you know and love, fused with stellar vocals, a full horn section and unique elements of NOLA funk, classic rock and jazz improvisation to keep things bouncy, set your mood to festive and ensure your boat's a-rockin'. There's even a tasteful smattering of original music that sounds like it stepped right out of 1978.
Founded by the visionary team behind Brother Joscephus and the Love Revolution, the Lobster roster features NYC's finest professional musicians who have played together for decades.
The Bad Influence Band have stayed at the apex of the mid-Atlantic's blues and roots scene for a career that spans three decades. The band presents wildly entertaining, high-energy performances, extensive airplay and have released three well-received albums.
Whether performing at a festival, on a stage at Kennedy Center or on Memphis' hallowed Beale Street, the four-piece group featuring guitarist Michael Tash, harmonica ace and singer Roger Edsall, bassist-vocalist Bob Mallardi and drummer Joe Wells are unabashed crowd pleasers thanks to their expert ensemble playing, strong melodies, addictive grooves, sly original songwriting and sheer intensity.
Sol Roots is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured around the world with many music legends and pioneers. The Sol Roots Band performs a blend of New Orleans influenced funk, heartfelt jazz and soul, deep blues, energetic rock, and hypnotic rhythms.
The Sol Roots band has shared the stage with acts such as Jon Cleary, Cory Henry, Dumpstaphunk, The Wood Brothers, Victor Wainwright, Sonny Landreth, Eric Lindell, Roosevelt Collier, Booker T Jones, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Shemekia Copeland, Jackie Greene and many more.
Paying homage to the greats, and with a love of Universal Music as the guiding light, Sol steps out with a unique, powerful voice and a talented band of musicians.
