Patricia Nicholson Parker dancer, poet and organizer of movement, music and causes - has developed her work within the aesthetic of free jazz. She has also dedicated her life as founder and director of Arts for Arts and the Vision Festival, to gathering together some of the greatest music, dance, poetry, and visual art under one roof for a six-day celebration of creativity. As a dancer-choreographer, she works in the realm of the intuitive creating unique dance and theater pieces. William Parker, born and raised in the Bronx, and living in the Lower East Side since 1975, has become one of the most important composers and bassists in the creative music world. Downbeat magazine describes his energy and spirit as “both Herculean and Gargantuan. Renowned as a composer and bassist, Parker is also a multi-instrumentalist, an educator, and an author. William Parker is prolific recording artist, with over 150 recorded albums and countless celebrated stage appearances. In the “70s and 80’s he was a key figure in organizing artist run festivals and music series. The Sound Unity Festival and Stork Records are 2 examples. These efforts served as an inspiration and guide for the Vision Festival. He was recently honored to receive the Doris Duke Performing Artist Award.
‘Vision Music & Dance/on tour’ is a special 2-day project offering of Transparent Productions, The Atlas, and Union & Arts Manufacturing, which present the heart of the NY-based Vision Festival’s manifestation of ideology and aesthetics. This
2-day project shares their transformative art and ideas with our area communities.
