About

The all-volunteer, non-profit Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation will present the 2016 Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Jazz Celebration on Monday, 20 June (8-11 p.m.) in the ballroom at the historic Capital Hotel (capitalhotel.com) in downtown Little Rock. Distinguished guitarist Ted Ludwig will be inducted; jazz legends Junie Cobb, Alex Hill, and Clark Terry will be honored with posthumous awards. After the induction ceremonies, there will be a two-hour jazz celebration featuring Thomas East (vocals, keys), Guido Ritchie (trumpet, flugelhorn), Matt Treadway (guitar), Joe Vick (upright bass), and Brian Brown (drums); other accomplished jazz artists will sit in. The adults-only event (with table seating for approximately 100) is open to the public but first-come, first-seated. Ballroom doors open at 7:45 p.m. From 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. a full cash bar will be available in the ballroom; the Capital Bar and Grill (located at the other end of the lobby) will be open before and during the event. Complimentary valet parking is available to all attendees. The admission fee ($20 cash/check at the door) will be waived for any new/current/former Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation member submitting 2016-2017 annual dues ($20 payable 1 July) by 13 June; a membership form (along with information about the Foundation and Hall of Fame) is provided under "Downloads" at arjazz.org. (Dues, donations, and event proceeds help defray expenses for Hall of Fame inductions and the Foundation's educational activities. Established in 1992 and funded entirely by contributions from individuals, the Foundation publicly acknowledges patrons donating at least $50/$100/$500/$1000.) Info and a local map for the venue are provided via a link at the top of this Jazz Near You entry, which can be shared via e-mail as well as social media. A public, shareable invitation is posted under "More: Events" at the top of the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation's Facebook page, which is linked from every page at arjazz.org. Questions should be directed to AJHF Secretary Alita Mantels (501.661.1604). ...
