I’m looking forward to being in Sitka, Alaska this summer during the week of July 18 - 25 for the 2nd Dee Daniels Vocal Workshop at the beautiful Sitka Fine Arts Camp where the mountains meet the sea. Joining me again in the presentation of the workshop will be the Native Jazz Trio: Christian Fabian, bass; Reuel Lubag, piano; and Ed Littlefield, drums.

Here’s what you can expect from the workshop. You will be in a supportive environment where the main focus will be singing as a soloist with a world class Native Jazz Trio. Each day you will attend four sessions of various topics. In addition to technique, we will cover aspects of what it takes to become the consummate soloist, vocal techniques created by Dee / accessing the entire vocal range seamlessly / melodic & rhythmic exploration / the art of storytelling / phrasing / the art of creating scat / performance presentation (developing stage presence, microphone technique, creating a set list, body language, band interaction) / a music business crash course, and much more. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to sing, sing, sing!

To kick off the workshop, on Saturday evening, July 19th, you’ll have an opportunity to attend a public concert featuring myself and the Native Jazz Trio, and the rehearsal for the concert. At the end of the workshop on the Thursday evening, YOU will perform in a public concert – an opportunity to put what you’ve learned during the week into practice. Your performance will be video-taped. On Thursday (the last day of the workshop), your video will be reviewed and critiqued with the goal of giving you constructive support and suggestions for raising the bar of your performances.
