The Blassics’ sound is akin to rough original funk seven inches with elements from afrobeat thrown in for good measure. However, the band does not settle for recycling the genre’s clichés but goes for a new sound of their own instead. Art is never standard, it tirelessly pushes towards unexplored directions.
The Blassics‘ core duo draws their inspiration from record collecting and deejaying. They are committed to creating a sound which is warm and crisp, and which could work also on the decks at DJ gigs. Therefore it is very natural that the albums by The Blassics are 100% analogue.

The Blassics on seitsenhenkinen syvää funkkia ja afrobeatia varioiva orkesteri Hämeenlinnasta, joka luottaa soundissaan 1960-luvun funk-singlejen rouheaan estetiikkaan. Bändi ei kuitenkaan ole kaiku menneisyydestä. Päinvastoin. Monivuotisen musiikillisen matkansa aikana he ovat huomanneet musiikin olevan yksi olemisen ja kulkemisen tapa. Musiikki on ikuista, mutta aina ainutkertaista. Sielukkuudesta kertoo sekin, että The Blassicsin levyt on äänitetty livenä analogistudiossa, kuulostellen hyvää fiilistä.
Yhtyeen viimeisin levy We Call It Real oli ehdolla Funky Awardsien vuoden albumiksi 2015. Pitkän linjan muusiikkikriitikko Jussi Niemi arvioi levyä Soundi-lehdessä: 'Käsittämättömän kypsää afrobeatia pimeimmästä Suomesta. Erottuu lajin massasta poikkeuksellisen hienostuneella jatsahtavuudellaan.'
Odd Funk Records julkaisee The Blassicsin kolmannen albumin keväällä 2017 Afrojazz Clubin keikallaan.
Ennen keikkaa klo 21.00 kuullaan ajankohtaisia puheenvuoroja aiheina mm. monikulttuurisuus, humanitaarisuus, ympäristö, sosiaaliset, henkiset ja muut kysymykset Afrojazz Clubin arvojen mukaisesti. 27.4 vuorossa Erja Sini-Kaarina Varis, Suomalainen Tiibet-komitea otsikkona Tiibet tänään.
