About

An American Jazz legend in a hygge café in Espergaerde - only 45 tickets available per show to experience this intimate program with one of the genre’s living icons.

He was the drummer on John Coltrane’s debut album “Coltrane” in 1957 and has since performed and recorded with jazz history’s greatest icons, including Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, Lester Young and Horace Silver to name but a few. And of course he is ⅓ of the group The Heath Brothers, that he co-lead with his equally legendary brothers Percy Heath and Jimmy Heath. Albert “Tootie” Heath has a long-standing relationship with Denmark as he was among the numerous American jazz expats who settled here in the 1960s, playing here regularly with musicians such as Don Cherry, Kenny Drew, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. His tenure back then as the house drummer of Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen was later celebrated in the acclaimed 2005 documentary feature film “Between a Smile and a Tear” written and directed by Niels Lan Doky. The National Endowment for the Arts awarded Albert “Tootie” Heath a 2021 NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship - the highest honor in jazz from the US government. Previous recipients have included Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, Sonny Rollins and Wayne Shorter among others. Don't miss this unique opportunity to see and hear this great master in person as he headlines a cross-generational, multicultural all-star quartet featuring some of the top instrumentalists from the region, with Danish bassist Tobias Dall, and Swedes Fredrik Kronkvist and Calle Brickman on respectively alto saxophone and piano. The intimate club setting of Jazz Café Divino in Espergærde, a town in the municipality of Elsinore, adds even further to the uniqueness of this special experience that is in store for us....
