About the Musicians: The Swedish singer Josefine Cronholm is one of Scandinavia's leading vocalists, known for her unique musicality and deep emotional expression. She leads a number of award-winning ensembles and is also known for her collaborations with Marilyn Mazur, John Taylor, Django Bates, and ARC.
One of the central figures in European jazz, saxophonist Benjamin Koppel, with nearly 60 solo albums and collaborations with major names such as Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, Brian Blade, Jim Hall, and Randy Brecker, has repeatedly demonstrated his artistic versatility and virtuosity.
The legendary bassist Scott Colley, known for his work with Herbie Hancock, John Scofield, and Carmen McRae, is both a fabulous bassist and an outstanding composer and one of the most sought-after bassists.
Kevin Hays is internationally recognized and considered one of the leading jazz pianists in his generation. He has released numerous albums under his own name and has played on Grammy-nominated and winning albums. He has toured with prominent names like Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Roy Haynes, John Scofield, Chris Potter, and Brad Mehldau.
The Swedish drummer Magnus Öström made a name for himself internationally with his work in the groundbreaking and iconic jazz trio E.S.T., but he has also made a strong mark as a solo artist with several releases under his own name. He has worked with artists like Pat Metheny and Benny Golson, demonstrating with his versatile and unique playing that he is undoubtedly one of Europe's most important drummers.
Henrik Dam Thomsen is one of today's most prominent Scandinavian instrumentalists, serving as the principal cellist in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years. Henrik Dam Thomsen has contributed to numerous recordings, both with classical works and cross-over music. His solo CD featuring music by Kodaly and Britten (Chandos Records 2004) was nominated for a Danish Music Award in the "Best Solo Recording" category.
The concert will be framed (in Danish) by the Danish historian Silvia Goldbaum Tarabini, who is currently acclaimed for her book Danske jøders liv og død i Theresienstadt (The Life and Death of Danish Jews in Theresienstadt).
At sætte ord på kz-fangernes hverdag eller mangel på samme under 2. verdenskrig er en umulig opgave. Men kan man sætte toner på? COWBELL MUSIC er stolte af at præsentere værket De Hvide Busser med nogle af den internationale jazzscenes stærkeste navne til en helt særlig koncert i Dansk Arkitektur Center.
Den danske musiker Benjamin Koppel har komponeret et over timelangt værk fremført som et bud på at videreformidle en historie, der ikke må glemmes. På baggrund af interviews med overlevende fanger fra kz-lejrene er der trukket citater med ind i musikken. I alt fik Røde Kors reddet 20.000 kz-fanger ud af de nazistiske udryddelseslejre gennem ’De Hvide Busser’ redningsaktionen efter krigens afslutning.
