This evening’s headline act Calexico has long called upon an extended range of musical influences. Based in Tucson and named after a California town, Calexico’s work has spoken of dusty deserts and the loners that inhabit them, mixing America’s country music heritage with a Latin twist. The band’s Joey Burns and John Convertino have blended these influences so distinctly that the results have almost become a genre of their own.

Susana Baca
Afro-Peruvian singer-songwriter Susana Baca is one of the great voices of modern Peru. Her songs are poetic and rich with evocative imagery, while her voice is delicate yet soulful. Winner of two Latin Grammy Awards, Baca has been a key figure in the revival of Afro-Peruvian music around the world, and was recently named Peru’s Minister of Culture. Ms. Baca is the evening’s opening act....
