Every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. dancers gather at Finnegan’s in Kansas City’s North land to dance to Abel Ramirez’s 17 piece big band.

West Coast, East Coast, Waltz, and Fox Trot, or enjoy just about any dance tempo including slow dance. ‘Dancing with the Stars’ has brought back ballroom dancing which appeals to a wide range of people from teen-agers to people in their 90s.
The music has a nostalgic classic big band sound like Count Basie’s Kansas City swing era and the 1950s vocal style of Frank Sinatra.
Dancers and side liners are treated to different vocalists every Tuesday including Frank Ancona, Frank Cherrito, Frank “Vig” Vigliaturo,
Tony Antonucci, Anne Trinkl, Shannon Basham, Russ Simmons,
Patti DiPardo Livergood, and others. The band has over 400 classics from bands like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glen Miller, and other great jazz and swing musicians.
Abel, who started out as a rock and roll drummer, has been a Kansas City jazz drummer for the last 34 years and has achieved a reputation as one of the city’s finest drummers.
Over the years he has worked with well-known artists including The Four Aces, The Four Lads, The Coasters, The Diamonds, The Drifters, Johnny
Ray, and Bob Crosby.
Since Abel took over the Trimble Young Band, the Abel Ramirez Big Band has become the best ballroom dance band in the area and is a hit at night clubs, festivals, corporate events, fundraisers, and wedding receptions.
Before the Tuesdays at Finnegan’s, dancers crowded the dance floor once a week to show off their dancing skills at the former Ari’s Restaurant in Olathe. Prior to working at Ari’s, the band worked at Tony’s Bar and Grill and Topaz in Lenexa.
The dancers love the big band sound and Abel loves the dancers so much he doesn’t have a cover charge. Finnegan’s is the perfect place to swing, jive or do just about any dance tempo with classics from the great bands of the past.
