Join Rochester-area jazz trumpet player and composer Dr. Dave Chisholm for a survey of jazz improvisation and theory with a strong focus on practical application of concepts. Discussion will approach the jazz canon holistically, with topics ranging from the blues language to basic modal playing, all the way to complex bebop vocabulary and post-bop exploration. At every step along the way, this course will draw from the rich recorded history of jazz music, providing real-life examples of abstract theoretical concepts by way of timeless jazz albums.
