With a name that tellingly fuses the African “bata” drum and the rhythmic mojo that is the traditional “cha-cha,” the Sonoma County-based band Batachá serves a spicy concoction along the lines of Afro-Latin-jazz, with a tinge of blues in the mix. The band features keyboardist Joel Bennett, bassist Sebastian Link, Hal Forman on trumpet, and Puerto Rican-born Joel Aviles taking the spotlight as conguero and lead vocalist.
