An award-winning recording artist under his own name, he also played as a member of the Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman and Buddy Rich big bands. For Valentine’s weekend at the Harwood, Bobby is creating a concert of mostly ballads, music that especially touches him and others. Audiences discover how deeply trumpet can communicate feelings of love found, lost or realized and lyrics expressed as notes from the maestro. His excellent trio includes highly accomplished pianist Bob Fox, California virtuoso bassist Michael Glynn and drummer Cal Haines. This will be a compelling experience of jazz, musicianship, artistry, melody and lyrical feeling. The tempos and musical textures will be diverse and there will be no sleepers, but maybe some dreamers and others that lift the spirit aloft. One of the highlights is the romantic favorite, “The Shadow of Your Smile” and of course, a personalized rendition of “My Funny Valentine.”
