As she matured, she allowed many of the sounds of Brazil to influence her music, going beyond samba to include afoxé, forro, maracatu and more.

Before moving to the U.S. at the age of 17, Cissa Paz was sampling American rock music. She then fell in love with R&B, Soul and Hip Hop. As her new album shows, there is no end to the possibilities of interesting rhythms and prose that emerge from her life experience. Her free flowing stream of world music is an ethnomusicologist’s dream and a delight to her fans.

Recorded in Rio de Janeiro, the album mixes the rhythms of Brazil with that of Lusophone countries in Africa such as Cape Verde and Angola. With Brazilian and African composers, songs mix rhythms and ideas with similar roots but different evolutions. Producer J.P. Silva is the former musical director for iconic Brazilian singer Elza Soares, the album boasts nearly a dozen prominent musicians. A somewhat smaller ensemble will perform the album music tonight.
