Dancing into Dreamland 2014 at Dreamland Ballroom/Taborian Hall

"Dancing into Dreamland" (an annual fundraiser for the Dreamland Ballroom/Taborian Hall historic preservation project) was first held in 2009. The 2014 event will be held in Dreamland's third-floor ballroom (still a work in progress without elevator) from 7 pm until 10 pm on Friday, 7 November 2014. Though no live jazz is included in this year's fundraiser, one of the three judges for the dance competition is David Miller, well-known to jazz aficionados and widely recognized as an expert on the jazz subgenre called swing, which developed in the 1920s and became a popular style associated with big bands; since 1983, Miller has hosted and produced the weekly jazz program "Swingin' down the Lane" (www.swingindownthelane.com), broadcast on 50+ NPR affiliates in the U.S. and several commercial stations abroad....

General admission (on the same level as but not near the dance floor) is $69 per person. A second-row table for 6 (near the dance floor) is $495. A first-row table for 6 (at the dance floor) is $695. A private box-seat balcony section for 10-12 is $1200. A private balcony section for 25 is $2900.

SPECIAL NOTE: Though not primarily a jazz event, this fundraiser supports the ongoing historic preservation project for Dreamland Ballroom/Taborian Hall (a jazz mecca in its heyday) on Little Rock's historic West Ninth Street. (That project is also supported by the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation, which sponsors and maintains the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame.)
